Take Time to Notice

Uncategorized No Comments »

Are you going somewhere exciting in the holidays? Maybe you are just staying home. Every day there are amazing things that happen around us, even in our homes and backyards but sometimes we are so busy that we never take time to notice. These holidays I would encourage you to raise your awareness, open your eyes, be alert and find something amazing, something unusual, something funny or even something sad, take a photo of it and email it to me with a short comment, explaining what the photo is about.

As I will be posting your photos, make sure that, if your photographs are of people, you have permission to upload their photos onto the interent. If you do not want the photo uploaded on the internet, let me know when you send it to me.

Have a great break. Rest, read and re-energise for a busy Term 3.

Mrs J.

The Post It competiton is finally over. Thank you to all those students who participated in the competition and contributed to the class blog. As well as receiving merit certificates for your efforts, you also had an opportunity to improve your writing skills and learnt how to access and use your school email accounts. However there can only be 1 winner . . . well in this case 3 winners.

Congratulations to Shayma, Jinan and Zena who produced pieces of writing that were original and creative in thought, well edited and neatly presented.

Go Wild and Add Links

Challenge 8 of the Blogging Challenge asks you to think and write about an animal you would like to seen in its natural habitat, i.e. in the wild rather than in a zoo. You might like to do a search and find some useful websites that show your chosen animal in their natural environment. National Geographic for kids and BBC Wild are 2 websites I found that could be useful when exploring animals in the wild. Leave a comment on this post with links to any websites you have enjoyed reading about animals in the wild.

You could write a poem, narrative or take some photos, the choice is yours. So if your’re feeling a little bored and feel like being creative, you can write your colour post as a comment on this blog and I will post it so that everyone can read it.

Here are some tips for “Reducing”, “Reusing” and “Recycling” at home and at school:

  • reuse plastic bottles
  • recycle paper, cardboard, cans, clothing
  • turn off taps when brushing teeth
  • take shorter showers
  • turn off lights, fans, heaters and airconditioners when you leave the room
  • turn off power points when not in use
  • use natural sources of light rather than turning on electricity
  • put a bucket under dripping taps
  • turn off outside lights when returning home
  • use a bucket to wash the car
  • switch off the tv
  • don’t leave water running

Do you know any other simple ways to reduce, reuse and recycle?

Welcome 2009

Uncategorized 12 Comments »

Welcome to 7L’s Blog.  Below is a small sample of the work we have been doing over the past few days. We have been discussing the International Mother Language Day which is coming up on the 21st February. Did you know that there are about 7000 spoken languages in the world and that 417 of these languages are nearly extinct? In Australia, English is the predominant language, however,  there are approximately 500 other languages spoken including 50 indigenous languages. That’s amazing for a country that has a relatively small population. In our school there are many languages represented including Arabic, Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island, Maori, Vietnamese, Sudanese and many, many more. Many students are multilingual, meaning that they speak several languages fluently.

What country do you come from? What languages do you speak?
